D-Dimer presentation

Good morning, Happy Friday!
We all know the request for transport for “abnormal labs” call. But what if that “abnormal lab” is an elevated D-Dimer? Does that heighten your suspicion of increased risk of a higher acuity patient? Does it change how you assess or treat your patient? What conditions are you trying to rule out based on the patient’s underlying risk factors, co-morbidities, and current symptoms?
Specific lab values may differ in range due to the specific tests utilized by different facilities. That is why you will not see numbers/ranges of values included in this presentation.
Please take 5 minutes to review this quick presentation on your next shift and familiarize yourself with the possibilities of implications this abnormal lab value may present. And please share with your BLS clinicians as well. Thank you to Melanie Rowland and Erin Keefer for their research and submission of this presentation.
