Timestamping the onset and amount of prehospital IV/IO fluid administration is paramount to the continuum of patient care. The most appropriate standard way to document a fluid bolus is via the timestamp under the medications tab in the EMEDS patient care report. (Especially in cases of sepsis, trauma, and burn patients; but we really should be documenting amount and time of fluid bolus regardless of the etiology).
Make sure to not only pass along the amount of fluid administration in your bedside report…but in appropriately in your documentation as well. Preceptors, please make sure your preceptee clinicians are following this guidance as well.
