In an effort to bring clarity to the issue of EMS units when dealing with deceased patients, I asked the OCME to render an opinion. Attached, please find a letter explaining the pre-hospital providers role in this situation. As I stated in the previous email, the notification of physicians and funeral homes is either the responsibility of Law Enforcement or the OCME investigator. It is not within our scope to make any of these notifications.
I understand the concerns surrounding the time it takes to get law enforcement into certain areas of the County and will work with the police agencies to improve this response time.
